Detect it...
Designed for sewer/storm drain diversion control, the RainSwitch will detect 1/10th on an inch of rainfall, which assures the initial run-off will flow to the sewer system. This first run-off is typically high in contaminants and bacteria and therefore needs to flow to the sewer system for proper treatment. Once the first 1/10th of an inch has fallen, the RainSwitch will trip a relay. Other uses include Irrigation Control, Retractable Roof Control, Rainwater Capture/Collection Systems, and Cistern Control.
The RainSwitch is made of stainless steel to ensure long life against harsh environments. The RainSwitch is designed with a 14” funnel to collect the falling rain. Once a 1/10th of an inch of rain has fallen, the level chamber will be filled to the point that a conductive level sensor will sense the level. This signal then travels to the Pilot Station which has a level controller mounted inside that changes state (switch). This controller sends a very small current to the probe, so the circuit is completed as soon as water touches the probe, and after the 3 second delay, switches the contacts in the controller. This has proven to be extremely repeatable, and not subject to fouling.
